For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Another famous verse. If this verse is true then why in the world do we sometimes try to work for it. I certainly have been guilty of trying to work for it at times.
We say things like if I do a little bit more I will gain more favor with God. Maybe he will send blessings my way. Well he will send blessings but it won’t be for our good works it will be for how we show him that in our hearts we are content where we are and that we love to serve him in a one on one basis with Jesus the Christ at the center of worship. That’s where our salvation is found in worship and faith and most of all RELATIONSHIP with Jesus.
Relationship is what Jesus is looking for. Although our good works are worthy and definitely needed it is not what Jesus looks at when considering our salvation. He looks for a change of the heart. A change that focuses on his work and we have glory in what he does through us. Not what I do.
Salvation is not of ourselves but through faith in Jesus and then through us his work is done. The end result is always what Jesus did through us. Not what we did for Jesus.
This morning I want to just sit here and thank him for what he does for us. How he is constantly going to the father and mediating our request. Such a blessing it is to know the one and only power of the universe.
There is no other name under the heavens to be praised but by the name of Jesus.
Man can simply not be justified by what he does. He can only do things by the Grace of God. Mans works alone are as filthy rags to the father.
Romans 5:8. “For God commended his love towards us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”
So dear father as I move into another day given by Grace to me. Let me walk in confidence that the work you did is enough. Let my heart sing with joy today and everyday.
Let me focus on this short psalm today and thank him for it.
1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to[a] those he loves.
3 Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court.
