I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.a For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
What an amazing truth this passage is. It is a fact that I can not live completely without sin for it lives in me and just when I think I am doing well along comes sin to entice, lure and hinder my spiritual walk. How many times do I fall for sins and the same sin in a lot of cases?
Paul writes that he can not carry out what is good and the sinful nature takes over and the good he wants to do he does not do.
I always pray to God for deliverance knowing that it takes grace and patience to live the Christian life and the day to day struggles are to be expected. Christ lets us know there will be tribulations.
Let me focus on these scriptures today and reflect on my sins and ask for forgiveness now.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Here is the thing, we have victory in Christ who takes away our sins because of a perfect sacrifice unto God. God sees us through Jesus Christ.
1 John 1:7-9
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Let me realize that I am a sinner and confessing my sins is part of the Christian life. I can not hold on to unconfessed sins. I must repent and move on and try my best to return to God as quickly as possible.
Satin has been defeated.
All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
We can not (can not) be good enough for God by our individual acts. We can only have a relationship with the father through Jesus Christ which is our mediator.
We need Jesus every minute of our lives.
So today as I confess my sins that I have fallen into let me continue to call out to God for help and to continue to live day to day with a confession of total faith in God to forgive me of all my sins with a sense of returning to a godly life.
Let me walk by the spirit and not sinful man.
The words in to today’s song for my day are fitting words for today’s scriptures
It is not I that live but Christ that lives in me.
