Verse of the day 08/05/2014

1 John 5:14-15
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
I know this verse is used many times to express God’s grace to give us our hearts desire. I believe he will give us material things if we ask but today I noticed spiritually that in several translations the last words of verse 15 are (of) him or (from) him.

Could it also mean if we ask for things of his spiritual host of knowledge he will give it to us?

So this morning I am reading this verse in the context of spiritual teaching. If we ask for knowledge, endurance, enlightenment, instruction, wisdom, judgment, understanding and the list could go on and on he shall give us whatsoever we ask.

Let me ask today for spiritual petitions of knowledge.

These verses will help me meditate on today’s verse:

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The holy spirit shall teach me all things.

Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

The holy spirit shall teach me all things.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Again the holy spirit shall teach me all things.

Acts 4:31
And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Today as I study God’s word I noticed how much the scripture revealed to me about us learning and discerning his word. We can ask for spiritual understanding and he shall give us what we ask of him.

I will let the holy spirit teach me today.
